Before we know it – IT’S DINNER TIME!! The panic sets in as we frantically decide what to make. Stressed for time, and a busy day, we often reach for fast foods, frozen dinners or a quick fix. These tend to be high in fat, salt and low in nutrients.
Well, busy dinners don’t need to be unhealthy. Today, on CTV Calgary Morning Live, with Kathy Le, I talked about quick, easy meals that only taste great, but are great for your heart.
One of my favourite recipes is the Black Bean and Corn Quesadilla, which you can see made in this HEART HEALTHY RECIPE video. Notice the bright, vibrant colours that provide great vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The beans are a great source of cholesterol lowering fibre and protein. The lower fat cheese lowers the saturated fat gives the recipes a boost of calcium. Make it in a sandwich maker and you have instantly cut pieces ready to eat! This is a favourite recipe for kids. We know, for kids to develop good, healthy habits, it’s important for them to try and learn to love all kinds of fruits and vegetables, served in a variety of ways. Serving fruits or vegetables in different forms, textures, and temperatures will help them develop a love for variety and choice, and trying new foods.
